I was very glad I connected with Mr. Watson's firm. It was only a 3 day turn around until the court case. He made time to meet with me and immediately drove nearly an hour to meet with the client. He was able to successfully settle the matter without requesting the court extend the case and leave the client in custody and in limbo another month. He also negotiated the client receiving the shortest sentence the judge issued during the entire session that day - on a 3rd violation, I was impressed and the client was ecstatic! I would recommend their firm to anyone seeking legal support. They were very reasonably priced, especially considering the level of effort he immediately put into the case. The payment plan options were a welcome support since none of us really plan ahead of time to challenge the judicial system, especially from custody! I would call the Watson Law Firm again without hesitation and recommend anyone else seeking counsel at least take advantage of their no cost consultation and see what they can do to help.

What is Drug crime?

Drug crime means doing something illegal with drugs. This includes having drugs without any permission, like making drugs, selling drugs, or moving them from one place to another illegally. Mostly, drugs in these cases are the things that are banned, or they are controlled by the law. In Tennessee, these crimes are really serious because they can lead to addiction, health issues, and violence.

Law and other officers check and catch the people who are involved in drug crimes. The punishment for this crime depends on the type of drug involved and the quantity involved. It can include going to jail, paying heavy fines, or going to the treatment programs.

Our Drug Crime Defense Lawyer Services

Drug Possession Defense

If you are accused of drug possession, it can be very stressful, but with the help of our legal drug possession attorneys, it can make a big difference. Our lawyers can help by defending you against the charge of illegal drugs or for other reasons. We examine all the police actions and check if the evidence against you is correct or not. We try to reduce or remove the charges so that you avoid going to jail, getting a treatment program, or probation.

Possession With Intent to Distribute Defense

Sometimes the police jump to conclusions very quickly, and wrongly labeling you as a drug dealer when you had no intention to sell anything is one of the most frustrating charges a person can face. If you were holding a substance for personal reasons and are now being accused of planning to distribute it, our defense lawyers will fight to set the record straight. We will dig into every piece of evidence, challenge weak assumptions, and expose any procedural mistakes that were made during your arrest.

Drug Trafficking Defense

Being accused of drug trafficking is a serious matter, especially when you had no intention of selling or delivering illegal drugs in the first place. If you were simply carrying or transporting something for a completely different reason and are now facing these charges, our experienced lawyers are here to help. We protect your legal rights at every stage of the process and work hard to make sure the full truth of your situation comes to light for the best possible outcome.

Prescription Drug Charge Defense

A simple misunderstanding about a prescription medicine should never cost you your career or future. If you have been wrongly accused of using, carrying, or sharing a prescription drug, which is a simple prescription, our criminal drug lawyers are here to set the record straight. We thoroughly review your medical records, pharmacy details, and case reports to prove your innocence, protect your professional reputation, and eliminate or reduce any unfair penalties.

Illegal Search & Seizure Defense

If the police searched your home, car, or your personal belongings without a proper warrant or legal reason, any evidence they collected during that search may not be legally valid. Then you are facing charges that came out of an unlawful or unquestionable search in Tennessee, our lawyers take a close and careful look at exactly how that search was conducted and whether all proper procedures were followed.

Felony Drug Charge Defense

A felony drug charge in Tennessee carries consequences that can follow you for the rest of your life, from losing your job opportunities to facing heavy fines and prison time. If you have been charged without solid proof or based on unclear circumstances, our defense lawyers are here to step in and help. We take a thorough look at how the arrest was made, whether proper procedures were followed, and whether the evidence against you is as strong as the prosecution claims.

Drug Charge Reduction & Dismissal

A drug charge in Tennessee does not always mean the case against you is solid or fair. Our drug crime attorney carefully examines the full picture of your situation, looking at the circumstances of your arrest, the validity of the evidence, and whether law enforcement followed all required procedures is right or not. We also communicate directly with prosecutors and keep you informed at every step so you always know where your case stands and what options are available to you.

First-Time Drug Offense Defense

Being falsely accused of a drug offense for the very first time, which you genuinely did not do, can make you feel like your entire world has been turned upside down overnight. Whether the charge came from a case of mistaken identity, a misunderstanding of the situation, or evidence that simply does not tell the full story, our lawyers are here to help you fight back. We take a close look at exactly how the accusation came about, question the reliability of the evidence presented against you, and work to uncover any inconsistencies in the case. Our priority is to clear your name, keep your record clean, and make sure one false accusation does not have a lasting impact on the rest of your life.

Get the defense you deserve and schedule your free consultation with Watson Law Firm, and let us start working for you!

Understanding Drug Classifications and Penalties

In Tennessee, drug crimes are classified according to the type of substance involved and the amount in possession. The penalties vary greatly depending on the drug category and the specifics of the offense. Drug crimes can encompass several activities, including possession, distribution, trafficking, and manufacturing of illegal substances. Let’s break it down further:

  • Schedule I Drugs: They include heroin, LSD, and ecstasy. The drugs are said to have the highest possibility for misuse and no accepted medical use.
  • Schedule II Drugs: They include drugs such as cocaine, methamphetamine, and prescription opioids like oxycodone. Such drugs have a high potential for abuse but are still allowed in the medical world under strict regulation.
  • Schedule III, IV, and V Drugs: These include substances with lower potential for abuse, like anabolic steroids, Xanax, and certain prescription medications.

If you’ve been arrested for any drug-related offense, the classification of the drug and the quantity involved can significantly impact the penalties.

Drug Crime Penalties in Knoxville, Tennessee

Penalties for drug crimes in Knoxville, Tennessee, can be very severe, especially if you have previous convictions or if the offense involves a large quantity of drugs.

Possession of controlled substances can result in significant imprisonment, heavy fines, and an enduring criminal record.

Possession with intent to distribute or trafficking carries much more severe penalties, especially for drugs with higher abuse potential.

Penalties can escalate quickly with the amount of drugs involved, making it important to understand your charges fully.

Possible Defenses for Drug Charges

Here are the possible defenses for drug charges in Knoxville, Tennessee. Some of the most common defenses include:

  • Unlawful Search and Seizure: If the police searched you without a good reason or any proper permission, anything they found cannot be used against you, and your case may be dropped.
  • Lack of Knowledge: If you had no idea that the drugs were there, or as if someone put them in your car or house without telling you, you can say the drugs were not yours.
  • Valid Prescription: If a doctor gave you a legal prescription for the drug and you can show proof of it, you may not face any charges at all.
  • Deception: If a police officer or any undercover agent pushed or tricked you into doing something illegal that you would never have done on your own, you can use this as a defense.
  • Mishandling of Evidence: If the police did not handle the drug evidence properly, such as losing it, mixing it with other items, or storing it incorrectly, then the evidence becomes unreliable, and the court may not allow it to be used against you.
  • Insufficient Evidence: If the police cannot clearly show that you knew the drugs were there and that you had them on purpose, then there is not enough proof against you, and your case can be thrown out.
  • Overdose Protection Law: If you called 911 to get help for someone who was overdosing on drugs, Tennessee law protects you, and you cannot be arrested or charged for having drugs at that time.

Having a good lawyer by your side who knows Tennessee drug laws can make a big difference in your case and may help reduce or even completely remove the charges against you.
